The Visitation of Our Lady Alumni Scholarship Award
Sponsored by: The Visitation of Our Lady Men’s Club [est. 2001]
PURPOSE & BASIS OF AWARD
The members of the VOL Men’s Club recognize the value and importance of a Catholic high school education for the
alumni of VOL School. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide scholarship recipients with assistance for a portion of
high school tuition expenses at Catholic high schools, and to encourage active participation in service to the Catholic Church,
Catholic schools and charitable causes. The VOL Men’s Club is based on the principles of service to the Catholic Church,
VOL school, charities and our local community. We require that our award recipients exhibit the same characteristics of service as our club.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
The VOL Men’s Club will grant 4 high school scholarship awards on an annual basis. The amount of each award for the
2016-17 school year is $1,000. The funds from our scholarship award will be applied toward a portion of high school tuition
expenses at qualified Catholic high schools. Qualified Catholic high schools are schools that, upon our evaluation, meet the
criteria established by our scholarship committee each year. Our scholarship committee consists of select members of our
club and select clergymen of VOL Church. Scholarship funds will be disbursed directly to the qualified high school by our
men’s club on behalf of the recipient. Eligible service requirements for this scholarship shall be performed from the month of
June until the application deadline the following spring. 4 scholarship award recipients will be selected each spring for tuition
applicable for the next school year. Every effort will be made to select 2 males and 2 females as recipients, if reasonably justified. Our scholarships are only funded once. Funding for scholarship recipients is not automatically renewable from year-toyear, however recipients are eligible to reapply from year-to-year. Applicants and past recipients are allowed the opportunity
to apply and reapply for our award throughout their years in high school.
CRITERIA
We require that our scholarship recipients have some significant record of service to the Catholic Church, their Catholic
School, charities and/or our local community (ex. CYO, Key Club, Peer Ministry, Ambassadors, Altar Servers, Choir, Boy/
Girl Scouts, SGA, yearbook, newspaper, community outreach, etc.) and be of good moral character. Scholarship applicants
are required to be baptized Roman Catholics and graduates of VOL School. Applicants must have attended VOL School, at a
minimum, for fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth (if applicable) grades. We recommend that applicants maintain a "B-" average in
all of their core subject courses. Applicants must provide proof of acceptance of admission prior to the disbursement of funds
to the qualified high school. Current 7th grade students of VOL School who are applying for admission at a qualified Catholic
high school the following school year are eligible. Current 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th grade students who are an alumnus/alumna of
VOL School who will be attending a qualified Catholic high school the following school year are also eligible to apply. Applicants may reapply each year until the end of their junior year of high school. Applicants must submit our application form and
a short essay stating why he or she feels that they are qualified and deserving of this award. Letters of recommendation may
also be submitted along with our application. Applications will be available from the VOL Men’s Club in the spring. Updates
and further information will be posted on our Facebook page (VOL MensClub) throughout the year.
If you would like to contribute to the Scholarship Fund, donation forms are located in the literature rack in church.
