VOL Parish Weekly Bulletin November 15, 2015 | Page 2

November 15th, 2015 Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time Views From The Pews Several of you ask, including Sal, “What’s the construction for in church?” “We are building a new, improved choir area. Should be finished before Thanksgiving.” Anonymous writes, “Is it true Food Bank food goes to non -parishioners? I don’t think this is right if it is true. I hear many people HIT multiple parishes. I have stopped donating.” “Yes, we give food to non-parishioners as well as to parishioners. Jesus says over and over in many emphatic ways that our help should be to ALL the needy, not just to our own. We have lengthy procedures in place to avoid people taking advantage of the system; but, people being people, I suspect you are right. Some scam the system. It’s true now and it was true in Jesus’ time. Yet, Jesus still gave to the needy and tells us to do the same. I personally give generously every month to our St. Vincent DePaul Society, and I will continue to do so. I hope you change your mind about giving food to the needy through the VOL Food Bank, but I recognize the choice is yours. ” Several of you have the same thought about the homily I delivered at the five o'clock Mass. Elaine expresses it this way, “You are right. I make all my decisions about how to spend my money before deciding how much to give to Church and charity. I wasn’t thinking that I was putting God last. You are right. I do make decisions on how much to spend on cell phone, cable TV and everything else before I decide what is left over that I can give to God. I feel guilty. God should come first.” “I didn’t intend to make you or anyone else feel guilty. However, I am glad you got the message. We should choose first how much we give to God and then, if necessary, cut back on how much we spend on cell phones, cable TV, etc. God should come first and then things. It’s hard, but it is right.” Did You Know? Ten years ago, 7% of Americans used Social Media. According to a recent national poll, the percentage today is 65%. The book will be brought up at the offertory procession and placed on a small table in front of the altar for the duration of Mass. After Mass, it will be returned to the podium in the vestibule for con tinued use. 2 November 21st & 22nd 9 am-2 pm VOL Cafeteria Photography by: Barberito Photographers
