Did You Know?
Robin left a message on my voicemail.
“Father Mike, it was raining buckets
when I was getting ready to come to the
Noon Mass. I stayed home. Did I
commit a sin? Noon is my Mass.”
“Sin is determined by God, not by a priest. But, I
think I can help. There was not only serious rain as the
Noon Mass approached, there was a lot of lightning. So,
I think it was prudent and not sinful to stay home.
However, it was not raining for our next Mass at 7pm.
Unless you had a valid reason not to attend 7 pm Mass
(Noon is your Mass would not be a valid reason), an
objective sin was committed and should be confessed.”
Anonymous writes, “Someone parked under the overhang
during the Noon Mass. You should have had him towed
away. That is a fire zone. And, boy was that selfish. The
rest of us had to walk through the rain and get wet. What
makes him think he’s special?”
“I didn’t see it. If the person was just dropping
someone off, that’s what the overhang is for. However,
if someone actually parked there during Mass, I agree
with you. It broke the law and, in addition, was selfish.”
Don writes, “I am amazed that so many parishioners come
to pray and can’t read the handicapped signs. To park in
those spots you must display a handicapped placard or a
disabled license plate. If caught it is a $250 ticket.”
“Thanks for writing.”
