May 17, 2015 Seventh Sunday of Easter 2 Views From The Pews Views From The Pews continued We have some holdovers from last week. In addition, the Silent Auction during the Fair, which was primarily supported by parents and grandparents, raised $19,000. So, here is the school’s… Literally dozens of you have nice things to say about our First Communion celebrations. Here is one of them. Billie says, “I was blown away. It was just so nice I wanted to cry. It was like one of the best days of my life.” “I am delighted your child’s First Communion was an emotional rush for you. It should be for everyone.” We have one complaint about the First Communions. Anonymous says, “I did not like SoulSpirit at First Communion. It took away from the sacrament.” “Thank you for your comment. You have a right to your opinion, but I totally disagree with it. I believe SoulSpirit enhanced the sacrament. You should have been where I was, looking into the faces of the little girls and boys. They loved it and so did I.” Several of you ask whether I have a profit figure yet for Cajun Fest. Alexis adds, “I hope it is a record!! “I will have the profit figure next week. In the meantime, I can tell you our sale of sponsorships (the signs you see on our fence and buildings) set a record. Thanks to the very hard work of Gary and Kit Payne, we sold $70,887 of sponsorship.” Our school principal, Carolyn Levet, gently called me to task for overlooking in my newsletter thank you article several extraordinarily important groups who made Cajun Fest 2015 such a success. Carolyn writes, “I think any group responsible for contributing $69,168 deserves thanks and recognition.” “My bad. Please accept my apologies. Our school children, their parents, our teachers and school staff spent six weeks feverishly practicing songs for performances, collecting money, making auction baskets and, then working in booths and attending a bunch of events during the festival. Here is what they accomplished before the Fair even opened. -Weekly Festival Days $1,227 -Kids Fest Cards 2,865 -T-shirts 8,838 -Raffle Tickets 37,328 SUBTOTAL $50,168 Continued in next column GRAND TOTAL $69,168 Our school did A Herculean job. I am very proud of its hard work.” I also have a number of nice compliments for Joan Rooney, who was our “Lay Witness” during Week Two of Stewardship Renewal. I believe Audrey captures well what, in one way or another, everyone said. “Tell Joan Rooney she was terrific. I was deeply moved by her story. Because of what she said, I am going to try to be a better person.” “Audrey, I was moved also. Joan was terrific.” Fr. Mike Did You Know?
