Fourth Sunday of Lent
Views From The Pews
Anonymous writes, “Quit trying to get
us to join parish ministries. Enough is
enough. We know what you believe we
just think we do enough at home.”
“For most people, home is
definitely their primary place to serve. However, one of
the reasons Jesus had a three year public ministry is to
teach us that service (ministry) in not an either/or
consideration but a both/and requirement.”
Tessie writes, “Can you say a few words about
forgiveness. My husband left me for another woman and
I just cannot bring myself to forgive him. It hurts too
bad.”
“I fully understand. Your hurt is natural and
very difficult to overcome. Give it time, but be aware
that your hurt may never go away. Forgiveness, though,
does not require that we have good feelings about
someone who has wronged us. Forgiveness simply
requires that we do what Jesus did. Hanging on his
cross, Jesus looked down on those who nailed Him to the
cross and PRAYED for them. He said, “Father forgive
them.” Did Jesus have warm, fuzzy feelings about those
trained sadist? No, I strongly doubt he did. In fact, I
suspect his FEELINGS were just the reverse.
Nonetheless, he prayed for their salvation. So, here is
my suggestion to you. Pray that your ex gets what he
needs to change in whatever ways he need to change to
get into heaven. Then, regardless of your feelings, you
will have forgiven.”
