March 18, 2018 Fifth Sunday of Lent Views From The Pews 2 Did You Know? Milton writes, “I do not know whether I agree with you that Jesus has forgiven every terrible sin that has ever been committed. Some sins are just too bad. For example I do not agree that Hitler’s sins are forgiven. The man was total evil.” “Yes, I say Jesus has forgiven all sins, but I say it only because Jesus said it first. Yes, Hitler’s actions were totally evil, but Jesus has forgiven all sins. Past, present and future! Including Hitler’s sins. The distinction we must make is that although Hitler’s actions were ‘objectively’ totally sinful, only God knows whether they were ‘subjectively’ sinful. Sin is rooted in intention and, since only God can see into our hearts, minds and souls (where intention resides), only God can determine what is subjectively sinful. That is why Jesus tells us to never JUDGE. In addition, although Hitler’s sins were forgiven, he may have used his free will to reject Jesus’ forgiveness. Unfortunately, many do.” Jesus tells us to visit the imprisoned. If you cannot, consider writing to them. Here are several websites you can use.
