Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
Views From The Pews

Did You Know?
Al and Pat respond to last week’s view
that parishioners don't’ like it when I
tell stories about my wife, Kacky,
during my homilies. Al and Pat write,
“Your stories about you and Kacky are
a joy to listen to. Please continue telling them.”
“I will, using the same guideline I have always
used. If a Kacky story illustrates a spiritual point I want
to make, I will use it.”
Several of you pointed out that I left Holy Cross College
off my list of Catholic colleges and universities in last
week’s “Did You Know” section of the bulletin. Larry
writes, “How could you forget Holy Cross? Must be your
Jesuit bias showing.”
“What was showing was my age. I wanted to
include Holy Cross College under its new name and
status. It is now Holy Cross University. Somehow,
though, when my thoughts were typed on paper Holy
Cross University became Sacred Heart University. Go
figure!
Thanks for catching my mistake.”
One of our sacristans, Geri Callow, writes, “Ladies if
during Communion you intend to drink from the chalice,
please DO NOT WEAR LIPSTICK. (Your lipstick stains
the linen cloths we use to wipe the chalice between
communicants.” We spray the linen with a special cleaner
but, apparently, some lipsticks are permanent. We cannot
use stained linens for the Mass. Thank you for your
consideration.”
“Use common sense. Check your lipstick. If it
is permanent, get a special ‘Mass Only Lipstick’ that is
not permanent. We want you to consume the Precious
Blood of our Savior. That’s priority number one.
However, if you would wear a lipstick that wouldn’t stain
the linen purificators we use to wipe the chalice, that
would help us to save money. We wouldn’t have to
regularly replace so many purificators.”
Fr. Mike
In a Mass he celebrated May 24, 2016, Pope Francis
preached on eliminating gossip from our lives.
Pope
Francis said, “Bite your tongue a little. Your tongue will
swell a bit, but your spirit will be holier.”
