Did You Know?
Two of you write in response to Jack,
who responded two weeks ago to my
Stewardship Renewal homily by saying,
“No body likes a know it all. I come to
church to be with my God not a smart mouthed priest.”
Geri writes, “The last thing our VOL family needs during
our Eucharistic Celebrations is someone with so much
animosity, lack of common civility and such shameful
disrespect for our own pastor, the very person consecrated
to give us the precious Body and Blood of our Lord and
Savior.”
Bob writes, “I am completely amazed how some
parishioners are so disrespectful to Father Mike. Last
week Jack took the cake. Does he want Father Mike to
just read the gospel and not teach us anything? News
flash, it is his job to teach, inspire and motivate us. He is
always there for us if we just ask for his help. I for one
would not want a priest that does not challenge us to work
to getting us to heaven. Do some soul searching and think
of the day that you will be facing God to answer for your
actions. The Stewardship program is a great way for us to
begin our journey...and be thankful for Father Mike.”
“Thanks. I appreciate your support.”

Sealing up Time Capsule
Please join us Saturday, June 24th
immediately following the 5 p.m. Mass.
All ministry leaders are asked to write a
brief summary of the History of your
organization.
If you or your family have any historical
items pertaining to Visitation of Our Lady Church/School
that you would like to donate to the time capsule, please
send it in to the Pastoral Center. Please label your items in
case we can not use them and need to return them to you.
Space is limited, so please do not send in any big items.
There has been some Face Book chatter in our parish
recently about how parishioners should hold their hands
while saying the Our Father during Mass. May they hold
their arms and hands out the way the priest does in what
is called the “Orans” position? Orans is a Latin word for
praying. Also, may they hold hands? Well, the General
Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM) is the primary
source of what to do and how to do it during Mass. The
GIRM is pretty silent on the issue. However, in 1997 the
Vatican put out a document called “Instruction on
Certain Questions Regarding the Collaboration of the
Non-Ordained Faithful in the Sacred Ministry of Priests.
It says non-ordained parishioners may not use the Orans
position. According to the rules, parishioners should pray
the Our Father with their hands traditionally folded in
prayer.
Is it sinful for Lay People to use the Orans
position and/or to hold hands. No, and I very strongly
doubt God is concerned about the matter. I suspect God
is just thrilled we are praying, regardless of what we are
doing with our hands. Technically, though, lay people
who use the Orans position and/or hold hands are not in
compliance with the rules.

Eucharistic Adoration
Christ suffer ed and died for Y OU. His love for you is unfathomable. It’s time to take time for Him. Visit him
during Eucharistic Adoration on Thursday, June 22nd in the Day Chapel.
As you know school is not in session during the summer months, therefore the school children are not attending
adoration. Any time you can give to fill in those time slots are greatly appreciated. The Blessed Sacrament should never be
left unattended, so filling these time slots is very important. Call the Pastoral Center at 347-2203 to be placed on the
Adoration schedule. Drop ins are ALWAYS welcome!!
