July 30, 2017 Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Views From The Pews 2 Did You Know? Dianna says, “I loved the way you used movies in your homily on Jesus telling us not to judge. I saw all three movies. That really helped me to understand not only what Jesus said but why he said it. Do it more often. Movies help Jesus’s message come alive for me. “I don’t see a ton of movies; but, whenever I can, I will use the technique.” Phyllis says, “I see it now. Kids’ movies are like parables. Both have simple story lines but with really deep messages. Thanks. I’ll never see “Beauty and the Beast,” “Shrek,” and “Toy Story 3” again without hearing Jesus say “Don’t Judge” and “Don’t Judge a Book by it’s Cover.” “Thanks for the compliment. It was a fun homily to produce.” Father Mike By a margin of nearly 2-to-1, Americans now support same-sex marriage. By: Damian Zablocki (VOL Summer Intern) The largest shrine to Saint Ann, the Mother of the Blessed Virgin and the Grandmother of Christ lies in the beautiful town of Beaupre in Canada. As the shrine was being constructed, Pope Leo XIII sent along a 1 st class relic of Saint Ann, which would have been a piece of bone. This bone had belonged to that woman who bore the Holy Virgin Mary! How she cared and loved the Virgin who would bring into the world our salvation, Jesus Christ! As this relic travelled in the late 1800’s, the carrier of the relic stopped in New York City. There were so many wonderful miracles through the intercession of Saint Ann: the sick were cured, the blind saw and the lame walked. The people were so moved at how Saint Ann had assisted them, that as the relic was taken away in procession to Canada, the people lined the streets in front of Ste. Jean Baptiste Church in New York City, run by the Blessed Sacrament Fathers shouting, “Good-bye Good Saint Ann! Come back soon!” And that she did! A portion of the relic was sent back some time later to comfort all the ills and sorrows of the people of New York City, where it is still venerated today. Go to Saint Ann and ask this beautiful saint and woman, “Good Saint Ann, hear me! Good Saint Ann, pray for me!” Grandmothers can never say no!
