Did You Know?
Elsie writes, “You handled your
microphone problem well. I would have
gotten angry.”
“Elsie is referring to a problem
I had at the 7 o’clock Mass. The sound repeatedly
went off and on. And, when I got another mic, it too
caused problems.
Elsie, I learned a long time ago not to get
angry at things. They don’t listen and my anger is
wasted.”
Anonymous writes, “Do we really have to wash the
chalices during Mass? It really slows Mass down a lot.”
“Technically, we are not washing the chalices,
we are PURIFYING them. We are making certain
none of the Precious Body or Precious Blood of our
Savior remains. Purification does not have to take
place during Mass; it may be done immediately after
Mass. I will ask Fr. Daniel, who chairs our Liturgy
Committee, to have the Committee consider
purification after Mass, but doing it during Mass has
value. It creates time for us to do a little private prayer
after Communion.”

Adult Faith Formation
Deacon Paul Clark will lead a new 4-week cycle of
Adult Faith Formation in July reviewing Pope Francis’ new
Encyclical letter entitled Laudato Si’: On Care for Our
Common Home.
This encyclical challenges us to see our world as our
home and to care for it like we do our own homes. We will
only read excerpts from the Encyclical but everyone is
invited to read it in its entirety on the Vatican’s
website. Sessions will take place on Wednesdays at 7pm in
the church meeting room. This session began July 8th, but
it’s not too late to join them.
Please call the Pastoral Center @ 347-2203
for more information.
Hand Carved Olive Wood
Volunteers from the Holy Land in Bethlehem will be at
VOL to sell handmade olive wood carvings after all Masses
July 25th and 26th. Proceeds will go to struggling Catholics in
the Holy Land.
The National Religious Retirement Office
projects that, by 2024, because of declining vocations to
Religious Orders, there will be four retired religious
priests for every active religious priest.

Blot Your Lipstick, Ladies
That’s a request from our Extraordinary Ministers
of the Eucharist. Apparently, when our Extraordinary
Ministers wipe a Chalice after a woman with lipstick has
consumed the Precious Blood, the purificator (the cloth used
to wipe the chalice) is stained with lipstick and, I am told,
the lipstick stain is hard to remove. So, if you can help, our
Extraordinary Ministers would appreciate it.
