February 8, 2015 Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time Did You Know? Views From The Pews Anonymous writes, “Father Mike, I cannot understand why you do not know, we cannot hear a word these ladies are saying up there on the altar. They do not speak loud or not into the microphone. Please help.” “I asked six people in various parts of the back of the church whether they had a similar problem. All said they did not. Nonetheless, I will ask the lectors to talk louder and more directly into the microphone. I hope we can solve your problem.” Elizabeth writes, “Father Daniel, thank you for this homily. I have been struggling, particularly this weekfeeling very lost, angry and broken. I needed your words more than ever and you sure delivered. Thank you for being such a blessing. P.S. I love, love, love our choir director. His enthusiasm and love of music are infectious.” “On behalf of Father Daniel and Clark Knighten, you are very welcome.” Mary asks, “Why didn’t we bless throats this year. We always used to bless them the Sunday we sold blessed candles.” “The problem was poor communication on my part. We blessed throats at some Masses and not at others. Blessings are always appropriate, so we will bless throats next weekend (the weekend you read this) at the Masses we skipped last weekend.” Fr. Mike 2 A national survey indicates 71% of Americans adults now use Facebook. That’s one of the reasons we are joining with two other parishes to hire a fulltime Communications Coordinator. She or he will oversee and significantly upgrade the parishes’ social media usage. Fr. Mike Last Lent the Adult Faith Formation group read a book on Pope John Paul II and suffering. This Lent we want to pick up the same theme of suffering while reading a new book. This year we will read, The Miracle Man by Judy Landrieu Klein. The Miracle Man is the " riveting true story of [her] husband's journey to heaven and back and how it transformed [their] lives." The sessions for the book discussion will begin on February 19th and run through March 19th. On the last evening, Judy will join us to talk about some of the things she did not put in the book. This is an excellent opportunity to reflect on suffering and our own journey through Lent. If you are interested please email me ([email protected]) so that we can order a copy of the book for you.
