February 4, 2018 Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time Views From The Pews 2 Did You Know? I got a lot of positive comments this week about my homily. All said approximately the same thing. Here is one of them. It’s from Josephine. “I loved your homily. I always kind of felt bad that I didn’t always feel great about Jesus. I mean I wanted to but it did not always happen and I felt bad about it. It is nice to know he is a lot more concerned about what I do than about how I feel. That does not mean I do not want to love Jesus with all my heart but I just sometimes do not feel much. It is also good to know that if, as you said, I just keep on keeping on I can get to heaven. I know I have heard lots of priests say I just need to go to confession and try again to be good after I sin but it never really sunk in until I heard you say it this weekend. Thank you.” “You’re welcome.” Father Mike 90% of teen exchange texts with a typical exchange of 30 texts every day. Father Mike Download the new VOL app! Fasting and Abstinence Beginning Ash Wednesday (February 14th) & every Friday during Lent (except Good Friday) 5pm - 8pm in the Cafeteria Don’t forget! Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and abstinence. One full meal is permitted, with 2 smaller meals not equaling a full meal. Those between the ages of 18 and 60 are bound by the law of fasting. Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics who are 18 to 60 years old. Those who are bound to fast may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength according to each one’s needs, but eating between meals is NOT PERMITTED. Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics 14 years or older on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and on all Fridays of Lent. The determination of certain days as obligatory days of penance should not be understood as limiting the occasions for Christian penance. Way of the Cross The Way of the Cross will be celebrated every Friday evening during Lent immediately following the 6 p.m. Mass. This traditional journey to Calvary, using the texts from Holy Scripture, has been a consolation and source of faith and grace to many. The Church grants to those who participate in the Way of the Cross a plenary indulgence.
