February 1, 2015 Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Views From The Pews An unusually large number of you have kind words about my weekend homily on the need in our lives for a “Jesus Check List.” Here’s one of them. Lynne says, “I thought your homily was marvelous. Could you please repeat the check list?” “Thanks for the compliment. For those of you who didn’t hear my homily, I suggested we all have on our cell phones a list that we check every time we use the phone. Check one item each time. The purpose of the list? To become better people by doing good and eliminating bad. Each list should be personal, but here is the generic list I used in my homily. -Have I prayed today? -Have I tweeted God with short bursts of prayer? -Have I forgiven someone? -Have I been nice to my spouse? -Nice to my children? -Have I controlled my anger? -Have I eaten sensibly? -Have I resisted booze and drugs? -Have I avoided gossip? -Have I avoided porn? -Have I avoided bullying? -Have I served someone? -Have I saved some money so that I can give generously to charity and Church? I suggest that when we look at an item and briefly reflect on it, we do so as if Jesus were looking over our shoulder. I hope that will help keep us honest.” Anonymous writes, “I miss the organ at the 5 o’clock Mass.” “Choir Director Clark Knighten says he will have at least one organ selection at every Mass.” Fr. Mike Baby Bottle Campaign for Access Pregnancy The Baby Bottle Campaign has come to an end. Please return your baby bottle with the donation (checks written to Access Pregnancy) into the baskets located in the vestibule of the church. You may also opt to place your donation in the white envelopes provided in the vestibule and place them into the baskets as well. Thank you for participating in this pro-life cause. 2 Did You Know? We are planning to construct a professional space for our choirs with a large platform and hanging microphones. We are waiting on the Archdiocese to recommend a contractor. However, if you can recommend someone, please give me a call at the Pastoral Center @ 347-2203. Fr. Mike Last Lent we read a book on Pope John Paul II and suffering. This Lent we want to pick up the same theme of suffering while reading a new book. This year we will read, The Miracle Man by Judy Landrieu Klein. The Miracle Man is "the riveting true story of [her] husband's journey to heaven and back and how it transformed [their] lives." The sessions for the book discussion will begin on February 19th and run through March 19th. On the last evening, Judy will join us to talk about some of the things she did not put in the book. This is an excellent opportunity to reflect on suffering and our own journey through Lent. If you are interested please email me ([email protected]) so that we can order a copy of the book for you. 1st & 2nd Grade Grandparents Mass February 8th @ Noon
