Second Sunday of Advent

Did You Know?
Views From The Pews
Several of you write to ask that we move
the Advent Candle. Everyone has the same
reason. Here’s what Alice says. “Please
move the advent candle. I cannot see you
father when you are sitting in your chair and I can barely
see you when you stand.”
“Okay.
We’ll move it.
Thanks for the
observation.”
Anonymous writes, “I disagree with the Church about not
using the tissue of fetuses to help babies to live. I have a
cousin whose baby was helped by that. Don’t you agree?”
“No. A fetus is a baby, a child of God. It is
never right to destroy one life to help another.”

2nd Week of Advent
John cries out in the desert to remind us to “prepare the
way of the Lord!” If we are honest with ourselves, each of
us has things in our life which obstruct the way of the Lord.
It might be our desire for money, it might be our over
commitment to work or maybe it is our addiction to things
or people. Whatever it is let us strive to give it up this week.
In this second week of Advent, let us spend time
reflecting upon the obstacles we place in the Lord’s way.
We can be prepared to bring these things to confession on
Monday, December 15th for our penance service. Let us not
be ashamed of our mistakes but face them boldly with God
so that we give Him more space to work in the desert of our
lives.
Christmas Flower Memorials
Envelopes have been placed in the pews for those
wishing to help defray the cost of flowers and decorations
for the church this Christmas. Anyone wishing to make a
donation of at least $10.00 per name may memorialize a
deceased family member or friend. Please print legibly the
information on the envelope. The names of all persons in
whose memory flowers have been donated will be printed
in a special memorial booklet and distributed at all
Christmas Masses. These special envelopes may be placed
in the collection with your Sunday Offering. Your efforts
will not only help beautify the church for the coming of
Christ, but will also honor a loved one in a very special
way.
All envelopes must be turned in by
Sunday, December
14th.

The priests of the West Bank Deanery of the
Archdiocese will hold 3 communal penance services
during the Advent season to help lead God’s people
to “prepare the way of the Lord” by the worthy
reception of the Sacrament of Penance.
All Catholics are encouraged to attend one of
these Advent Penance Services and avail themselves
of the grace of this wonderful sacrament of renewal
and reconciliation in preparation for the birth of our
Savior.
