August 28, 2016 Twenty - Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Views From The Pews We have many, many inquiries about how our effort to help flood victims turned out. Here’s one of them. Susan asks, “Father, you called and asked us to help the flood victims. How did it go?” “I think the appropriate phrase is ‘spectacularly well.’ Clay and Melissa Bourg, Duane Foret and the Pastoral Center staff organized the event. More than 40 volunteers made the trip to St. Alphonsus Parish in Greenwell Springs. They caravanned behind a large Marque’s Market truck filled with supplies. The Men’s Club served more than 800 meals. Members of the Men’s Club gutted an elderly couple’s home. Thanks to you, we bought $900 of Wal-Mart gift cards. We collected more than $9,000 in our Second Collection. Major donors are Louisiana Seal, Joe’s Café, Laborie’s/ Budget Saver, Marque’s Market and employees of UPS in Harvey. THANKS! We served rather than being served, and everyone said the same thing: ‘It made me feel terrific.’” Jim writes, “My grandson, Eric France, Jr., and his wife were evacuated by boat at midnight in Denham Springs. When they were able to return 3 and a half days later, about 3 feet of water and mud had ruined all their furniture and appliances. Both of their cars were a total loss. Eric attend VOL from Pre-K until he graduated. He then went to Shaw where he played under Coach Hank during the glory years. While at VOL, Eric was an altar boy and participated in many school and parish activities. Like most, Eric and his wife had no flood insurance since they did not live in a flood zone. If any of you can help, please send your donations to his temporary address: Eric France, Jr., 32 Rosedown Ct., Marrero, La. 70072” “Jim said it all. If you can help, please do so.” Fr.
