August 20, 2017 Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Views From The Pews 2 Did You Know? Don, an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, asks for your help. Don writes, “Many times, while serving the Blood of Christ, some parishioners take large swallows instead of sipping from the Chalice. That results in us running out, leaving many in line who do not get the Precious Blood. Please ask everyone to sip, not gulp.” “Thank you for the suggestion. It is well said.” Close to 25% of America’s soldiers are Catholic Father Mike Clark asks, “What should a Catholic do when people like the hate groups in Charlottesville stage protests that turn violent?” “Never verbally or in any other way support hate groups, but do what Jesus tells us to do: respond to hatred with love. It’s impossible to ‘like’ prejudice, hatred and violence, but such people fall into Jesus’s ‘least of these’ category. We should not respond to their anger and hatred with anger and hatred of our own. We should love them, and we do that by praying that they get the graces they need to change their ways.” Father Mike Substance Abuse Ministry Meeting The next SAM meeting will be held Tuesday, August 22nd in the Church Meeting Room at 7 p.m. The Substance Abuse Ministry (SAM) offers a safe, confidential place for people touched by addiction to share their personal experiences with others.
