Did You Know?
Anonymous writes, “I know I am a
Catholic. I have been a Catholic all my
life but I don’t understand why we have to
go to confession. I think it is better to
confess right to God and I know it is easier. Why does
the church make it harder than it has to be? Would you
please explain.”
“It is not the Church that requires Confession to
priests. It is Jesus. Jesus told his apostles (the first
priests) that THEY would get to determine which sins
are forgiven. “Whose sins you forgive are forgiven.
Whose sins you do not forgive are not forgiven.” The
key word in Jesus’ command to his apostles is YOU.
Why did Jesus set-up the process that way? Well,
we’ll need to ask him when we get to heaven. But, I
believe he did it that way because it is just too easy to lie
in bed and tell Jesus we are sorry. Going to confession
requires a time commitment to get there and to examine
our conscience. And, more importantly, confessing to
God through another human being requires a higher
level of sorrow. It’s more embarrassing to confess our
sins to God through another human being.”
Rosie is among several who wrote about the suggestion in
my homily that we carry a small crucifix in our pockets
(or purse) and squeeze it when we’re in physical,
emotional or spiritual pain to remind us that our pain
never compares to Jesus’ pain and also to remind us to do
what Jesus did and offer up our pain for someone who
needs forgiveness. Rosie writes, “I love the small crucifix
idea. I will definitely get one tomorrow.”
“It’s a practice I have done for 36-years, and it has
been very helpful to me. I hope it is just as helpful to
you.”
We will have confessions this coming week not
only before each Mass, I will hear confessions
from 5 pm to 6:30 pm this coming Wednesday.
And, if you would like, you can make an
appointment for either Father Francis or I to hear
your confession at a time mutually convenient.

Month 2 – Developing Baby Spiritual Adoption Program
Your baby is making progress developing all of his/her external features and internal organs. At
40 days his/her brain is functioning. His/her mother can hear his/her heartbeat now on an
ultrasonic stethoscope. Milk-teeth buds are present at 6 ½ weeks. And it has been reported that a
two-month old baby can suck his/her thumb. From this moment, your spiritually adopted baby
grows and refines his/her body. But everything he/she needs to survive once he/she is born is
already present by the end of the eighth week.
Please Pray
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted
who is in danger of abortion.
Prayer of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen
During the nine month Spiritual Adoption campaign, the development of the pre-born child
will be displayed in the vestibule of the church.
Please remember to pray daily for your Spiritual Adopted Baby and the baby’s mother and father.
