Third Sunday of Easter
Views From The Pews

Did You Know?
Pat writes about the totally dark church at
the beginning of the Easter Vigil ceremony.
“Please consider having DIM lighting
throughout the church rather than no
lighting. There were some people having difficulty
getting to their pews. Kneelers unintentionally left down
could cause stumbling. Also, I believe that it is dangerous
for the older ladies who prepare the altar before Mass to
be navigating the stairs in the dark.”
“We are following Church guidelines, but your
suggestion is a reasonable one. We’ll give it serious
consideration next year. Thanks for writing.”
April is Child Abuse
Prevention Month
My daughter-in-law, Julie, attended our 7 pm Mass Easter.
It was her first exposure to our 7 o’clock band, SoulSpirit.
Julie says, “I was blown away. They are terrific!”
“Thanks for the compliment. I have passed it
along to the members of SoulSpirit. And, by the way, I
agree with you.”
The month of April is child Abuse
Prevention Month across the United States.
Let us each take time to thank God for the
many children and young people who are
served by the parishes, schools and programs
of the Archdiocese of New Orleans.
Several of you have kind remarks about Father Daniel’s
and my homilies. Here is one of each.
Erica writes, “I pray the Divine Chaplet often and often
wondered about St. Faustiner (is that the correct spelling).
Father Daniel’s homily on Divine Mercy and St. Faustiner
explained her to me really well. Please tell him thank you
for me.”
“Consider it done. The correct spelling is
Faustina. But, don’t worry about it. I suspect St.
Faustina doesn’t mind the misspelling at all.”
Debbie writes, “Your homily on fear was exactly what I
needed to hear. It’s good to be reminded that the apostles
were just as afraid as we are and they became saints. It
makes me understand I am not alone or unusual when I
am afraid. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome!”

Eucharistic Adoration
Christ suffer ed and died for Y OU. His love for you is
unfathomable.
It’s time to take time for Him. Visit him during
Eucharistic Adoration on Thursday, April 23rd in the Day
Chapel.
Call the Pastoral Center at 347-2203 if you’d like to be
placed on the Adoration schedule.
The national Catholic newspaper, Our Sunday Visitor,
says Pittsburg is the most Catholic city in America. It is
37% Catholic. However, the website of the Archdiocese
of New Orleans says New Orleans is 42% Catholic. We
may be number one.

It is important to continue to raise awareness of the
number of children who are abused or neglected every day
across the archdiocese and around the world. Pope Francis
has established a commission which demonstrates his
conviction and ours to protecting children and young people.
Archbishop Aymond reminds our youth that they are the
young church. They are always welcome in the church, and
we will do all we can to provide a safe and secure place for
them to worship and learn about their faith.
We have placed a “God chose you to protect his children”
sign in the front of church near the bell tower, along with a
blue bow on a tree. This will allow us to raise awareness of
the serious issue of child abuse and also of the importance or
providing a positive, healthy childhood experiences for all
children and youth.
