April 15, 2018 Third Sunday of Easter Views From The Pews 2 Did You Know? Diane and Roger write, “We’ve been VOL parishioners for 50-years. We attend 5 pm Mass every Saturday. We are having a real problem with the temperature in church. We wear jackets and notice many other parishioners do as well. Everyone around us complains they are freezing...It’s difficult to concentrate on Mass when all you can think of is how cold you are...It’s not only terribly uncomfortable but what a waste of electricity...Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.” “I believe this is a problem with perhaps no solution that satisfies all. By far, I get more complaints that it is too hot in church. About ten years ago, I took a vote. The majority voted to set the thermostat at 68-degrees. The Mass Captains are responsible for setting the thermostat. However, many people have keys to the mechanical room and, despite a large sign that says the thermostat should be set only at 68-degrees, some take it upon themselves to set it lower (I have never seen it higher). “Attendance at the Easter Sunday Masses was more than 1900. Attendance this past weekend was just over 1200, which is normal. I am happy that 700 additional people came to Easter services. I am always happy when people come to Mass. However, if you know any Christmas/Ash Wednesday/Easter Catholics, gently try to persuade them to come more frequently. To say thanks to God: for the gift of life, for forgiving our sins on a cross and for reserving a spot for us in heaven. That spot is not guaranteed, but a spot is reserved for each of us.” Father Mike Due to Cajun Fest, the Pastoral Center will be closed Fri., April 20th & Mon., April 23rd. The office will reopen on Tuesday, April 24th @ 8 a.m. In the event of an emergency, please call 341-7609. I am uncomfortable at 68-degrees. The thermostat in the Pastoral Center is generally set at 74 degrees in the summer and at 68 degrees in the winter to save money. The thermostats in the rectory are also set at those degrees. So, I, like you, would prefer a higher setting. But, I am following the wishes of the majority. If enough of you think it is time for a new vote, I will conduct one. Let me know; but, I repeat, I get a lot more comments that the church is too hot than I do that the church is too cold.” Father Mike CHICKEN DROP BINGO Guess the " SPOT " the Chicken squats in to make his " DROP " and you could win big! Come watch the Chicken Goooooooo … House Rules Winner need not be present. About a week before Cajun Fest, a great number of people come out to help with setup. Most of these people come straight from their regular jobs, before stopping at home for dinner. After working all day, and then coming out to volunteer, they get a little hungry. If you'd like to help us feed them, please call the school at 347-3377. The winner is determined by where the first “drop” is located. If the chicken “drops” in an out of bounds area, the Chicken Drop Bingo judge will randomly draw one ticket from all entries for the winning square. If the chicken drops on a line, all squares that share that line will split the prize. If the chicken does not drop in 30 minutes, a number will be pulled. The holder of the corresponding square is declared the winner. Squares can be purchased in the Pastoral Center Mon-Fri. 8am-4pm (closed for lunch noon-1pm)
