Great to hear that we are hit-ting the mark! We will continue to focus a great deal on bow-fishing, while also introducing our readers to other unique outdoor opportunities. We know what you mean about the social media sites, but it's still a great way to reach people. Tell your friends about us!
In our March issue we provided feedback from a reader that shot a potential state record silver redhorse in Tennessee. Here's his personal account:
January the 28th started like a lot of other days. I just finished a 24-hour shift on an ambulance and while most of my co-workers were heading home to get some sleep, I decided to head to the Little Pigeon river in Sevierville, TN for some bowfishing.
I have spent many mornings after work walking the banks of this stretch of river shooting common carp, gar, drum, quill-back, suckers, and redhorse.
This particular morning the shooting was extremely slow. After walking almost a mile up the bank and seeing no fish I decided to start back toward the truck and head for home. I was almost back to the parking area when a large redhorse caught my eye about 10 yards away from the bank.
My shot was true (more luck than skill I'm sure) and my RPM NOS Boost fish point held allow-ing me to land the fish. I have shot several redhorse identical to
this one and just assumed they were all river redhorse.
I was on the way home when I
remembered an article I had read in the first issue of Obscure Adventures Magazine about identifying redhorse species. When I arrived home I checked the article and identified this fish as a silver redhorse.
I quickly checked the Tenn-essee class B state records (for methods other than rod and reel) and saw there wasn't an entry for silver redhorse. I contacted the local Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency office and had my fish weighed (4 pounds 14 ounces) and identified by a state fisheries biologist.
I submitted the paperwork and my silver redhorse is now the current tennessee state record. I would have never known this fish was a potential record if not for reading the previous article. Thank you to outdoor adventures magazine.
