James Cronin VOIX Sports Editor

Hi Karim, thanks for speaking to us. As many of our readers might not be familiar with your sport, would you mind giving us a brief ice hockey introduction?

Ice hockey is known as the fastest team sport in the world, it's played on an ice rink, 3 periods of 20 minutes, 5 players plus 1 goalie on the ice for each team, the aim is to put the puck in the opposing teams goal. Ice hockey is also known for being quite rough, fisticuffs are allowed which amazes some people.

What was it about ice hockey that first attracted you to the sport?

I liked the physicality of the sport. I played football at school but always felt like I needed something with a bit more contact. I was just amazed that you were allowed to fight, I guess it allowed me to use my aggression in a controlled environment.

Battle of Algiers Part II.

Sometimes it’s like a battle on the ice, and the rest of the time we pretty much battle the government for support.
