Sloop Songs
(unrhymed Symbi)
by Bruce Aufhammer
Her bow, an arrow
like a dolphin's smile,
slices yet surfs sea shoulders:
she drinks wind to strum
summer's turquoise songs—
to coach my soul into wild.

Holiness in the
Chemo Room
by Pamela Bellet
There is holiness in the chemo room.
Handmaids of the Precious Blood and Sisters
of Divine Compassion move quietly
through the pews, offering communion and
comfort to the bald headed penitents.
Covered in sack cloth and ashes, we drink
holy wine through plastic tubes and ask for
absolution but pray for resurrection.
Bless me Father, for I have sinned
I have let this cancer in.
