Loving Who You Should Love: A Tribute to Mr. Stone

By Miguel Murcia

Mr. Stone had a part of my heart, he was my first boy teacher. Now that he´s not with me anymore, a part of my heart shall be his, a part of my daily life shall be his. But most importantly, my love shall be his. When I think of him, I think of all the special times with him that I keep in the deepest of my heart protecting from any bad thoughts. And also each Friday he wore jeans, the only day of the week that he did not wear formal trousers. I actually remember him by that very much. I keep two really memorable memories about him, one with him and one without him.

The one with him was when we were in science one day and he chose me and Marti to get everything ready. We prepared the electric circuits ( the batteries, the battery holders, the light bulbs, the blue wires, the red wires, and the wire holders) everything put into ziplock bags. We started to hand them out one baggie to each group of two without having the minimum idea of what we were to do with these strange objects we had just been given. “Make the light bulb shine bright!”said Mr. Stone with excitement.

Marti and me started to play around putting the wire holders everywhere and then we put one end of each wire around the light bulb and the other ends on the battery holder. The big moment: Marti let me put the battery in the battery holder and… MAGIC, the light bulb sparked in light, our faces amazed. That day is special to me because of the facial expression he had, he was like that with everyone, he admired the world, he loved the world, but he isn't in the world anymore, but we will never forget his always loving and caring face. And we know that if he hadn't gone he would be here to be as loving, caring, empathetic, and thoughtful as ever.
