CLICKING ON MY WINDOW by Lucia Rodes

In my house with a fire

I'm watching the rain

it makes clicking sounds

on my window pane

and they follow a rhythm

I feel an impulse,

I stand up

I walk towards the door

I step outside

the raindrops slide down my face

I hear the thunder close

I watch the lightning as it approaches

It's watching me

The mud goes through my fingers

and the fresh air

through my nose

The crackling fire is waiting

for me inside,

but I stay out here,

because that's where I belong.
