The Amazon Rainforest

By Mia Risher

The Amazon Rainforest is situated in South America, Brazil. The Amazon is the biggest rainforest in the world. It covers 2.5 million square miles and it produces 20% of our world’s oxygen which gives it the nickname “Lungs of the Planet.” Sadly, people are cutting down the Amazon Rainforest and week by week, it decreases. It now only covers 6% of our earth’s surface and it used to cover 14% of the surface. I don’t think that it is right to do that; we need to save the rainforest!

I think we should save the Amazon because, firstly, the Amazon

houses many plants and animals. Around ten million species of plants and animals live in the Amazon. The toucans, tapirs, monkeys, frogs, and countless other animals make their homes there. When the rainforest vanishes, what will happen to all those millions of species out there? They will die and become extinct. The Pygmy Marmoset is an endangered monkey. This animal is the smallest monkey in the world and the rainforest is its home. There are many toucans, but still, they are being killed and if they keep dying, they too will become endangered species.
