The Astonishing Rise (continued)

Seketris, the second-to-last in line in front of Cleoclucktro, had gotten careless. He went down to the Nile to mourn for his father and pray that he would get better without guards. An hour later, Seketris came back, staggering with his skull cracked, blood flowing everywhere. He staggered to the room where the Pharaoh was lying. Suddenly, in front of the Pharaoh, he stumbled and died. “Noooo!” cried Sesotep the IV the one hundred ninety ninth Pharaoh, who had completed eleven perfect trades with Punt and two victorious raids in Syria. “Noooooo!” he cried, and died.

All the while, Cleoclucktro and Thufutep had been watching, along with all the younger children of Sesotep the IV and his wives, which was twenty all together. Turning to Thufutep, Cleoclucktro, the twin who lived, shrugged and said, “Well, I guess you’re the mighty Pharaoh now, Thufutep.”

“No. No.” stammered Thufutep, who was frightened at what he had seen. “Ain’t gonna be Pharer after dish,” so frightened he started speaking slang as he stumbled over his own tongue. “Dis plaze is curshed by Set,” then he started running, to Amun-Ra knows where, and was never seen again.

Later that day, he went to a nearby town as celebration for Cleoclucktro becoming the two hundredth Pharaoh, for the mourning party for Sesotep the IV would come later. It was a colorful occasion, with many streamers and lanterns and a lot of food and drink- five ducks, each prepared differently, seven different types of summer salad, lots of bread and beer, wines of all types, an entire table top of fruit, to name just a few. Cleoclucktro paraded around with his favorite wife, Menohet, and took all the admiring compliments modestly. Finally, though, it was time for the big announcement. Cleoclucktro finally said what everyone had been waiting for: “Like some Pharaohs do, I am changing my name,” he paused, gazing around at the spectators. “I shall now be called Setimose the Incredible!” he cried amid wild cheers. They greeted him with his new name as he walked around with Menohet. “Setimose the Incredible! Setimose the Incredible! Setimose the Incredible, the Twin who Lived!”

And thus, the great Pharaoh called Cleoclucktro came to power.
