YOU ARE THE SUN( REFRAIN)
Written by Ursula Nyaboke Gisemba. Performed by Mumbi Kaigwa
MOTHER: Paint your face with dust. Cleanse your skin with mud. Clean up with the rain.
You are the sun.
In the morning you burst out crying, yelling, weeping, fighting to hide back in the womb. The warmth you always knew and sought to be reunited.
Instead I lifted you to the morning sun. The rays set on your skin. Loving, gentle, caressing. Meet the new world.
You wiggle and giggle finally. Cast away all sorrows of being trapped in a darker place. Calling out the birds. Sending home the bats. Opening like the petals. Stretching out like the leaves.
The branches dance to your light. Refreshing, renewing, recreating.
You are the sun.
