emerges as a sympathetic figure despite her past indiscretion , " left to mourn alone " as she puts it , and the widower employs some very nice figurative language in addressing her ; I appreciated the description of her as a " leper marooned in a desert , a secluded island where lawful men fear to go ." There were some nice little touches here like alliteration and so forth as well . All in all , I thought it is a promising piece of work . ~ Max Van Zile
