Ironic Recovery

On August 26, 2016, CNN covered a story between a father and a son, whose bond strengthend as a result of a devastating health problem. John Barnes, a Michigan denizen, had cirrhosis of a liver, a life-threatening condition that requires a liver transplant. However, due to a long wait-list for the liver, Barnes waited in fear

for his life. His four children were given specific instructions from his father to not be tested to see if their livers would be viable to donate. However, his youngest son, Brian Barnes, anonymously decided to donate a part of his liver. If a healthy person with similar genes donates a part of their liver, both parties can live healthily if all operation goes well. When John Barnes found out his donor was his son, he was both terrified not for his surgery, but for his son's life. Fortunately, the surgery went smoothly for both parties and Brian moved to his parent's home temporarily to recover. The two are reported to have developed a closer bond than ever.
