Article by: mytheresa.com Creative director Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen continues to garner top reviews as she adds a softer, more feminine touch to the brand’ s theatrical aesthetic. THE ALEXANDER MCQUEEN STORY The late Lee McQueen, a British fashion genius famed for his dramatic runway shows that reportedly brought seasoned editors to tears, was a hard act to follow. Sarah Burton, however, has successfully taken up the Alexander McQueen gauntlet, taking the much loved brand to new heights and even winning the 2011 ‘Designer of the Year’ title at the British Fashion Awards. Burton went on to create the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress, and was later named one of the most influential people in the world in the 2012 ‘Time 100’. THIS SEASON AT ALEXANDER MCQUEEN Sarah Burton never strays too far from the strong brand identity Lee McQueen established, instead leaving the trend chasing to others and thus setting Alexander McQueen apart, in a league of its own. SS15 will never be the first choice for wardrobe basics, but it most certainly is for time-transcending, precious pieces. This season tells the tale of Sarah Burton’s love affair with Japan, which grew on work trips during her early days at Alexander McQueen. References are made with collar shapes, silky fabrics and simply stunning kimono-inspired prints. The highly coveted Alexander McQueen scarf also gets a touch of the East and is offered in beautiful floral prints that’ll look great thrown over almost everything in your wardrobe. 12
