VJCL Fall Forum 2017
President's MEssage from Alyssa Funai
Salvete omnes!
This year, National Convention was held at Troy University in, you guessed it, Troy, Alabama! This past summer, delegates from all around the country came together, sang the JCL song at different speeds during every General Assembly, danced their hearts out to songs like “Apple Bottom Jeans” and “Darude Sandstorm”, bought some buttons from Wisconsin, and had a wonderful and absolutely amazing time in the beautiful, albeit humid, state of Alabama. Students participated in national tests, That’s Entertainment, and worked especially hard in spirit, yet again proving why Virginia has the best Junior Classical League!
Our very reliable source tells us that, yes, ladies and gentlemen, we got first place for spirit EVERY DAY at national convention! Our props? The coolest. Our shirts? Amazing. Our attitudes? Lets just say we really *spirited* away the competition. Our scrapbook received third place, and our promotional video, created by our very own Jocelyn Robertson, won! This year not only did the delegation do amazing, but each member of Virginia also worked hard individually, and I could not be more proud of how well we did. A special thank you goes out to our amazing and incredibly patient sponsors, chaperones, and co-chairs, who helped make Virginia’s very successful trip to Troy happen!
And with our many victories at National Convention come our many victories at State Convention! On the statewide level, you represent the very essence of the Virginia Junior Classical League: our local schools who do incredible things for the Classics and our communities! As one of the largest state conventions nationwide, we boast the most amazing group of delegates. Get ready for lots of shouting, t-shirt buying, and, of course, lasagna, salad, and bread at the greater Richmond Convention Center this November! We look forward to seeing you all there and hope you can make it out to join us! This year promises to be so much fun!
Ex animo,
Alyssa Funai, VJCL President
