Now, according to senator Wish-Wilson, terrorism is anything which creates terror – except the Muslims of course, that goes without saying. The definition includes ‘…any soldier in any country can be seen asa terrorist by their enemy, and the word “terrorism” is a word we should consider not using…’ I don’t think he has ever been to Iraq, but it’s hard to tell since it sounds distinctly like he has picked up that definition from the streets of Mosul.
Then there are the conspiracy theories! Conspiracy theories abound in Green rhetoric. Last September the AFP conducted raids across 3 states. According to Senator Waters, the purpose of these raids was not to avert terrorist attacks. It was to ‘soften up’ the public for the impending legislation to broaden surveillance powers. The fact that 11 people have been charged over these raids does not seem to register in the collective Green brain. And we shouldn’t worry about saving lives, we should wait for them ‘to commit a crime and then arrest them.’ Do I need to explain the implications of such a ludicrous assertion? I wonder if she applies the same reasoning to paedophile rings.
And last but not least it was, of course, a green who initiated the lie that sparked #Illridewithyou. Most of you are familiar with the story but it needs to be reiterated that a) the Muslim on the train has never been found. b) Rachel Jacobs updated her status on facebook after a mere glimpse of a woman in hijab. Then, perhaps she had a pang of conscience and tried to enact the lie she had just told. Suffice to say, by her own admission, she did not sit with the woman on the train, has no idea why she took her hijab off and admits they had a ‘wordless conversation’. So she did not in fact say, ‘I’ll ride with you’. Personally, I don’t believe the Muslim woman exists.
