encourage Muslims to follow the example set by Muhammad, as well as ordering them to obey his commands. [33]
For example, the Qur’an (33:21) says:
There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allah often.
But what kind of example did this human being set for his future followers? As well as being a paedophile with a penchant for beheading and murdering those who insulted him, [34] he was a wife-beater.
Muhammad: The Child-Wife-Beater
The Sahih Muslim recounts an incident of domestic abuse, in which Muhammad struck Aisha out of anger:
Why is it, O 'A'isha, that you are out of breath? I said: There is nothing. He said: Tell me or the Subtle and the Aware would inform me. I said: Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be ransom for you, and then I told him (the whole story). He said: Was it the darkness (of your shadow) that I saw in front of me? I said: Yes. He struck me on the chest which caused me pain, and then said: Did you think that Allah and His Apostle would deal unjustly with you? [35]
On another occasion, after a severely battered Muslim woman came to Aisha to implore the young girl’s husband, the mighty and merciful prophet, to abrade the battered wife’s violent husband, to which this medieval charlatan replied, “go back and submit to your husband’s sexual desires,” or words to that effect, Aisha said sorrowfully:
"I have not seen any woman suffering as much as the believing [Muslim] women.” [36]
Did this silly little girl not know that her profane sex was created exclusively for a man’s amusement? Had she not read the Qur’an?
Your wives are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth (have sexual relations with your wives in any manner as long as it is in the vagina and not in the anus), when or how you will… [37]
Did she not know that it is a husband’s prerogative to beat his disobedient wife?
Men are the managers of the affairs of women for that God has preferred in bounty one of them over another, and for that they have expended of their property. Righteous women are therefore obedient, guarding the secret for God's guarding. And those you fear may be rebellious admonish; banish them to their couches, and beat them. If they then obey you, look not for any way against them; Allah is All-high, All-great. [38]
Finally, on yet another occasion, Aisha and another of Muhammad’s wives were annoying him, so to amuse the “prophet,” Abu Bakr beat them in the neck, which made Muhammad laugh! [39]

Conclusion
So what are we to make of Muhammad’s abhorrent behaviour? Was he the product of faulty wiring, a bad environment, or possibly a combination of both of these factors, or was he just a mean and perverted old man? More importantly, what are we to make of verses in the Qur’an and Hadith that encourage modern and even moderate Muslims to emulate his perverse behaviour, to walk like an epileptic wife-beating paedophile, if you will? Surely these exhortations serve no healthy function in societies marked by a superior moral code, a code that frowns upon and even proscribes rape, paedophilia, misogyny and beheadings for blasphemy, along with the various other machinations of medieval madness that marred Muhammad’s hostile and inhospitable environment. Notwithstanding the pertinent nature of these questions, there is but one fundamental question raised by this investigation, and it cuts to the very heart of the religion of Islam:
If Muhammad was suffering temporal lobe epilepsy, which may have been the case, then aren’t the 1.6 billion Muslims living in the world today, squandering their precious lives in service to the hallucinations of a medieval epileptic tyrant?
