uly marked 50 years since the Apollo 11 mission launched
from Kennedy Space Center for its historic journey to
the moon. To celebrate, Kennedy Space Center Visitor
Complex unveiled a re-imagined Apollo/Saturn V Center with
new, enhanced exhibits about the Apollo missions and the
technology that made them possible.
Some exhibits focus on various artifacts, including Apollo
11 astronaut Michael Collins’ flight jacket and an F-1 Saturn
V engine. Others include “The People’s Moon,” a digital art
piece that creates an image of the moon using photos from
the Apollo Program, and the Fisher Space Pen, which details
the legacy of the zero-gravity space pen used by astronauts on
every crewed space mission since Apollo 7.
A five-minute film that pays tribute to the people of the Apollo
Program is projected on the 363-foot Saturn V rocket hanging
from the ceiling of the center. Additionally, a 1969-period living
room and bar scene recreates what it was like to watch the
moon landing.
