Fun Fact: The month of February is nationally recognized as American Heart Month. With that said, this month's issue is all about our body's most poetic organ, the heart. Guess what? February is also notoriously pegged as the month of love, (cue in the flying cupid) so it is fitting to have a whole issue on the universally accepted mascot of it, the heart. Since this whole issue will revolve around your heart you will learn WAY more than you ever intended. By the time you finish reading this issue you'll be thinking, "wow the heart is seriously an amazing organ."
Growing up I had a deep fascination with the heart and vascular system. Whether it be little facts about our hearts, like how many beats per second or learning about how our heart pumps blood, I was always eager to learn more. As students, taking care of our hearts is crucial to helping us lead a happy and healthy life. Ever heard of the saying, "health is wealth"? That most definitely includes heart health!
As per usual all the articles included have some sort of "college-student" touch to it to make it interesting for you to read. You are going to learn a TON of cool new things, and I can honestly say that I'm excited for your journey with this issue. You'll learn how chocolate is actually good for your heart (SAY WHAT?), and all about a disease called "broken heart syndrome" that is triggered by HAPPINESS (oh the irony!). Most importantly, you'll get an insiders look at the health centers of three Ivy League colleges: Yale, Harvard, and Brown. This was super fun because I got to learn so much about why health centers are a cruical component of any college. I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed discovering all these interesting things about our heart. Until next issue, vitalize!
