A Cause for Worship Chris Tye, Brunel Holidaymaker In the early 90s I was involved in a serious road accident which left me with a severe head injury. The head injury left me with many after-effects, including a problem with memory and organisation. So when I went to an appointment and the doctor said, “You shouldn’t be here” I assumed I got the wrong date. But he explained that he meant with this degree of head injury I should not have survived. So I have been very aware of God’s hand in my life. It has been a long process of recovery and even after all these years I continue to improve. When I went on my first DCF holiday to Tenerife 10 years ago, it didn’t enter my head to take any money with me, because planning and organising was still a big challenge. But this year, when I went on the refreshment week at Brunel, I was able to bring a young man from my church who I’ve been mentoring, and specifically helping him to manage his finances. This just shows how far God has brought me from that first DCF holiday when I needed so much help, to being able to help others. DCF has been an important part of my recovery. The friendships I’ve made and the support I’ve received have helped me through some difficult years. This year at Brunel, we looked at God as the Fellowship, tea and cake at Brunel true Shepherd, the Servant Shepherd, my Shepherd and the generous Shepherd. I have been struck during the week by the wonderful fact that God wants to be my Shepherd. I know what I’m really like, and He certainly knows what I’m really like, and yet He wants me to be one of His sheep and to be my Shepherd, and that is a real cause for worship. God is Able Brian and May Gault can testify that “God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.” (Eph. 3:20). Their ministry, ‘Look No Hands’ developed because Brian, a Thalidomide survivor of the 1960s, was born without arms. In1987 these verses provided inspiration… “..if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” (Isaiah 58:10 – 11) Brian now tours regularly to speak publicly about his disability and faith, encouraging people to overcome limitations. In 2010 he felt inspired to be a blessing to those with disabilities in developing countries. Brian’s presentations generate donations and the Gaults reached out to Through the Roof to kindly offer funds for our overseas mission, Wheels for the World. www.throughtheroof.org Could you raise funds for TTR’s work? At that point, Brian says, “we would have been thrilled to have received funds for 25 wheelchairs”. But, over 9 years, God has multiplied their efforts. Brian continues, “We are thrilled and overwhelmed by peoples’ generosity and that in partnership with our dear friends at Through the Roof over 1,000 precious lives have received their own wheelchair and their own Bible. Thanks Be Unto God!” Thank you to Brian, May, and everyone who’s donated towards that amazing total.
