That ’ s the perspective of Emma Fletcher , a regular volunteer on Through the Roof ’ s holiday programme . Here she explains why she loves being involved …
Tell us what sort of things you do as a volunteer .
“ As a volunteer I have supported holiday guests so they can take part in all the activities that have been planned . This has involved practical tasks , like helping a guest on an outing to a bowling alley , shuffling and dealing cards so guests can play games together in the evening and supporting at mealtimes . I have also helped guests to engage with daily times of Bible study , prayer and worship . Mostly I have spent a lot of time having fun and chatting over cups of tea and coffee !”
What has it meant to you to be a volunteer on these holidays ?
“ I have really enjoyed getting to know the holiday guests . It is a privilege to be part of such a diverse group , all enjoying a holiday together . I think it ’ s a great picture of the church – people of all ages and abilities sharing God ’ s love as they care for each other .”
What would you say to someone who ’ s considering volunteering for a TTR holiday ?
“ Firstly , it ’ s a great way to have a holiday and meet new people , and secondly it is really just about spending time with people and

enjoying their company . I think it also helps us to experience what it means to be part of the family of God and every year I have felt blessed to have taken part .”

On June 19th – 23rd , Through the Roof will be running a holiday at Calvert Trust , Exmoor , Devon . Calvert Trust is an all-inclusive “ accessible , exciting and memorable adventure break for everyone .” This is our first time holidaying at Calvert Trust and we ’ re looking forward to a great time together . Guests , carers and helpers can enjoy a range of fully accessible activities including abseiling , archery , cycling , carriage driving , climbing , sailing and much more . There ’ s also plenty to do for anyone who might enjoy something a little quieter , and you can enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Calvert Trust ’ s 44 acres of land set on the edge of Exmoor National Park . Rooms have mostly twin beds , all with en suite wet-rooms . Several of them have ceiling track hoists .
Costs : Guests – £ 700 ; Helpers / Carers – £ 550 . Unfortunately , we are unable to supply carers .
