Happy holidays
By Jan Nicholson , Operations and Events Manager
After such a long and enforced break , we were delighted to be able to resume our holidays , with our first stop being Treloar Activity Holiday which was led by Emma Fletcher and myself . Spanning a wide range of ages and abilities , there were 24 of us altogether , many of whom were ‘ regulars ’ with a few new faces ( myself included !)
The weather was fantastic making the activities throughout the week all the more enjoyable . These included favourites such as ten-pin bowling , accessible cycling , wall-climbing , walking and archery . We also had a treasure hunt , a Beetle Drive and a talent night with Pizza and cakes . We were delighted to have long serving DCF Leader Jenny Edwards and holiday helper Myrtle Appleton join us for the day at Alice Holt , the venue for accessible cycling .
Each evening we gathered to look at what it means to be part of God ’ s family through the Psalms . We learned that God ’ s family is where I am known , where I am secure , where I am loved and forgiven , and where I rejoice . After looking at the Psalms , we would split into two groups and either have further discussion led by Matt Rolfe or take a more creative approach with things like painting , led by Emma . We were blessed to have a real feeling of ‘ family ’ amongst us before we even started thinking about ‘ family ’.
Looking ahead to next year , we have a booking for the week of 19th – 23rd June 2023 at Calvert Trust Exmoor . Situated on the edge of Exmoor , it is a purpose-built activity centre for those with a disability – accessible in both accommodation and activities . All activities are on-site and include abseiling , bushcraft , accessible cycling , archery , climbing , canoeing , carriage driving , crate stacking and sailing . Full details will follow soon – email jan @ throughtheroof . org to register your interest .
