Wheels Motivates Young People for Mission
Youth leaders at The King ’ s Church , Chessington recently profiled Wheels for the World to help motivate their young people for mission . Wheels team-members Neil , Joanna and Carol inspired forty of the Young People ’ s Fellowship , aged between 14 and 18 , to consider using their skills to serve and share the love of Jesus . The family trio of Dad and two daughters have different roles of technician , physiotherapist and pastor so each shared their specialism to show different aspects in action plus explained roles , including admin and photography .
Neil explained that refurbished wheelchairs are shipped from the Aldershot warehouse to various countries for distribution . He showed a demonstration wheelchair with one side already refurbished and the other side not , to see if the young people could identify the problems , and talked through the alterations that were often needed , such as cushioning made to help individuals be seated in the best way .
Joanna ’ s presentation highlighted what happens as a physio when she sees a client – how each person is assessed , and their needs identified . She explained how she works with technicians to adapt each chair .
Pastor Carol read Psalm 139 about how we are all fearfully and wonderfully made . This is so important for those who come to distributions , as they will often have been made to believe that as a disabled person , they are unimportant and not valued in society , but God makes us into the people that He wants us to be .
The team gave out newsletters and flyers and finished the evening with a short video from their Uganda trip . The young people engaged well and asked some great questions . Encouragingly , the group have already raised £ 150 for Wheels . Thank you YPF ! Whilst no-one committed to becoming a missionary that evening , we have had teenagers on Wheels trips before , so we would love to receive an application from any potential young team-member .
Wheels to Ukraine
Through the Roof and Wheels for the World are sending a half-container of wheelchairs to our contacts in Ternopil , West Ukraine . Pastor Volodymyr ( our Ukrainian partner ) is distributing chairs to help people who ’ ve lost theirs after being left homeless by Russia ’ s attacks . We ’ re glad to be able to support Pastor Volodymyr and his church as they work with displaced disabled people . Please join us in praying for their safety and for a swift return to peace .
