Before stock became available, the humble cotton tee was available to pre-order, but demand was so high, it promptly sold out, despite the rather mind-boggling £490 price tag.
Its popularity was no doubt influenced by its celebrity endorsement.
The face of Miss Dior perfume Natalie Portman was spotted wearing the tee on a solidarity march in LA back in January. Dior girl Jennifer Lawrence also wore the t-shirt in the February edition of Harper's Bazaar Germany. Dior have partnered up with Rihanna's charity Clara Lionel Foundation, and are donating the proceeds from the 'We Should All Be Feminists' t-shirt to the charity. Rihanna Instagrammed a picture of herself wearing the t-shirt. Clara Lionel Foundation helps fund education, health and emergency response programs across the globe. Since the singer started the non-profit organization back in 2012, she has launched scholarship programs and held a Diamond Ball fundraiser each year. Most recently, she was named Humanitarian of The Year by the Harvard Foundation.
A parade of political statements made by designers throughout New York Fashion Week. Slogan tees were one example, kicked off last season in the Dior SS17 show, when Maria Grazia Chiuri showed t-shirts with the statements, ‘Dio(r)evolution’ and ‘We Should All Be Feminists’. Following suit, Prabal Gurung incorporated t-shirts presenting political messages in his show at NYFW last month, saying, ‘The Future Is Female’, ‘This Is What A Feminist Looks Like’ and ‘I Am An Immigrant’. Also, cult label Creatures of Comfort models wore t-shirts emblazoned with the words, ‘We Are All Human Beings’, and LSR’s debut collection included knickers which presented the words, ‘No Ban No Wall’ in reference to Trump’s Muslim ban.
