PROPS & FIXTURES
For props and fixtures that could be considered in photoshoots, use simple, functional forms or angular structures in a rich palette of intense dark shadows and moonlit brights. Use muted metallic surfaces to reflect the patterns and light, enhancing the visual depth of the display. Also include sweeping, fluid lines and spherical, curved forms finished in reflective metallic surfaces to portray a dreamlike narrative. To further this, use matte surfaces with burnished metallic and high-shine lacquer, or by playing with levels of transparency, opacity and reflection within props and fixtures.
SURFACE & PATTERN
Reference the blurred boundaries between night and day to create a sense of chiaroscuro through soft, coherent ombré patterns created from textured or faceted surfaces. Contrast reflective surfaces with matte surfaces, and use light to enhance the delicate dreamlike quality of the design. Soften straight, angular patterns with dimensional gradual effects, or by imbricating materials with varying obscurity. Create crisp folds and geometric angles on surfaces, or create three-dimensional illusions through shadows and highlights.
MATERIALS
Textural and visual depth is key for materials, with details such as gold metallic pigment, midnight florals engulfed beneath many layers of vanish, paste or glass, resulting in intoxicating revealed and concealed decoration. Layer fabrics and sculpt, curve and crumple them into highly tactile forms. Create distinct sculpted elegance using stretched pleats and folds in slick glossed leather, powder-coated steel and plush fabric to amplify the after-dark nocturnal glamour. Ultimate sophistication is key for immaculately designed displays, focusing attention on exquisitely edged material pairings and counterbalanced compositions.
