The autumn/ winter trend Nocturne explores the light that can come from darkness and introspection, and takes inspiration from the night and the stars. It's a direction of bittersweet beauty, where nigh becomes a place of activity(which i want to link with the activity and protests of feminism and being an activist in general), sleep provides a gateway to mysterious dream states(i interpret sleep as a get away from reality and dream about our goal which is to have gender equity in our world), and death is no longer taboo. It's a theme of blurred boundaries between night and day, offering a dramatically different viewpoint for the season. I think the over all feel of the a/w trend fits Vivienne Westwood because its dark, edgy and i think i can use this trend to create a statement in my collection.
MOOD
Nocturne is a poetic and mysterious style direction that explores transitions – between senses, between spaces, between planets, between times, and even between life and death. Through my collection i want the mood to represent the transition between society and what we protest and how it will impact the world and the people. it has a sense of unsettling romanticism and it has a dreamlike quality, exploring the unknown realm of sleep. A colour palette of intense shadowed darks and moonlit brights creates an alluring night vision with a sharp, dramatic edge which fits Westwood.
LIGHTING
Punctuate spaces with light from obscured or integrated sources, and enhance using subtly reflective surfaces. the lighting for the trend nocturne Introduces hints of rich jewel tones using coloured lights and filters. Layer and overlap light to create a sense of richness, shadows to represent the unknown and mystery and intriguing visual depth. Twilight skies and galactic constellations inspire mysterious twinkling lighting effects. For photos, use textured or faceted surfaces as a backdrop for light projections and filter light through laser-cut surfaces to create a galaxy-inspired effect.
