FOR THE ACTIVE
Whoever said cities don’ t have enough green space certainly never visited Baltimore, where several hiking and biking trails offer adventure for nature lovers of all levels, all tucked within the over 30 cultural neighborhoods that encompass them. The 15-mile Gwynns Falls Trail is a must-stop for active tourists, as it provides access to a historic and vibrant stream valley in Baltimore City. Along the urban greenway, you’ ll travel through more than 1,200 acres of parks— great for hiking, roller blading or setting up a picnic.
Another bustling spot is Patterson Park, a local landmark famed for its 19th-century design, featuring nine athletic fields, one of two ice skating rinks in the city, lakes and more.
Lastly, if you’ re craving a bit of history, head to Fort McHenry National Monument & Historic Shrine to understand how it inspired America’ s national anthem. While the surrounding park is free to visit, it’ s worth the entrance fee to stand within the star-shaped fort, learn about the historic battle that inspired our national anthem and hear about what life was like for soldiers during the war of 1812.

FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
The Enoch Pratt Free Library may be one of the oldest free public library systems in the country, but it’ s constantly evolving with the times through its collection of books, digital library and community-focused programming. From storytelling sessions to crafting workshops, it’ s worth stepping inside to see what the educational hub is offering this season.
After a bit of learning with the little ones, make your way to the famed Inner Harbor to take in waterside views, explore the sights( including the National Aquarium, home to 20,000 sea creatures, which offers half-priced admission on Friday evenings) and indulge in some homemade grub.
In the spring, you can climb aboard neighboring Urban Pirates’ Family Adventure Cruise for a journey that is sure to entertain kiddos of all ages. The hour-and-a-half ride around the water is well worth the price, as the whole family will be outfitted in pirate attire, learn songs, dance together and play games like true shipmen of the sea. VB
