National Great Blacks In Wax Museum
It ’ s famous for a reason . This one-of-a-kind museum solely dedicated to studying and preserving African American history was the first wax museum in Baltimore . Though it had reduced hours due to the pandemic at press time ( view the website for the latest information ), visitors could still visit to take in life-sized and lifelike wax figures , including those of lauded author Zora Neale Hurston , who had city roots and graduated from Morgan State ’ s high school in 1918 , and jazz legend Billie Holiday ( AKA Lady Day ), who was raised in Baltimore .

Located in downtown Baltimore , this museum brings 400 years of Maryland African American history to life , including exhibits in the areas of industry , politics , leisure activities , sports , media , the arts , education , the military and more . It reopened with enhanced safety protocols in September 2020 and boasts a collection of more than 10,000 objects . Visit to see its interactive and educational offerings .
