JASON VARNEY Fell’s Point JASON VARNEY Walters Art Museum JASON VARNEY 1815 The Washington Monument was built (33 years before the one in Washington, D.C.). 1828 First railroad for commercial transportation was built by the B&O Railroad. The company’s historic roundhouse now houses the B&O Railroad Museum along that first mile of track. 1840 Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, the first dental college in the world, was established. Today it’s known as the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and is home to the National Museum of Dentistry, the only one of its kind in the world. 1885 First commercially operated electric streetcar line began operation.
