ANNIVERSARY of the Sitka Music Festival – a jam-packed four-week classical concert event featuring professional musicians from around the world .
From casual shows at local restaurants to upscale concerts on the waterfront , the Sitka Music Festival offers a month of events to those passionate about classical music .
The Sitka Music Festival was a vision brought to life in 1972 by Paul Rosenthal , a violinist and Julliard graduate , who served as the festival ’ s artistic director for 40 years . In 2011 , Rosenthal passed the creative torch on to Grammy Award-winning cellist Zuill Bailey , who fell in love with Sitka and the festival when he first performed as a guest in 2007 .
After celebrating the recent grand opening of Stevenson Hall — the festival ’ s new headquarters on the historic Sheldon Jackson College campus – the Sitka Music Festival is now ringing in its semi-centennial birthday with exciting new projects . With music seminars , cello masterclasses , and captivating in-person and virtual concert series , the Sitka Music Festival invites you to enjoy the highest quality of classical music entertainment in one of the most beautiful cities in the world .
