Locals of all ages hit the runway to show off their wearable art – stunning creations made of everything from disco balls and airline tickets, to picture frames or fish bones. Each year features a different theme and the passionate people who spend months creating their outfits.
Herring Fishery

Guild Show
Come see the amazing, original creations by the talented artists of the local Quilters Guild. Viewer’s Choice voting on quilts from all who attend the show with the winner to

Julie Hughes Triathlon
Dedicated in 1985 to the wonderful spirit of Julie Hughes, who was lost to cancer at the age of 16. The event consists of a 5-mile run, 14-mile bike ride, and 1,000-yard swim. There is a special short course for participants 12 and under. Proceeds from this event are donated to the Sitka Cancer Survivors Network.
Sitka Salmon Derby
Catch prize-winning fish in the sparkling waters of Sitka. Cash and prizes awarded. Sponsored by the Sitka Sportsman’s Association.

When the US purchased Alaska from Russia, the actual transfer ceremony occurred on October 18, 1867, on Castle Hill in Sitka. Annual celebrations include a reenactment ceremony, a period costume ball, dances, dinners, a parade and more!
