DANCE TROUPES
Sitka is also home to three dance troupes that hold performances all throughout the summer season . To be sure you get a seat , purchase tickets early or book an excursion that includes the show , since tickets can be difficult to come by May through September .
Visitors who come during other parts of the year can catch a performance at special events , like the Alaska Day festivities , or at private shows . Top performances to add to your itinerary :
The Naa Kahidi Dancers are a well-known group made up of Alaska Native dancers . Their 30-minute performances are held in a traditional style Tlingít clan house made of cedar wood .
The New Archangel Dancers also use traditional songs and dances to share culture and history with viewers , though they tell the tales of Alaska ’ s Russian history and people . Their performances rotate through 35 different folk dances and typically run 30 minutes long .
Alaska Storytellers walk , or rather dance , their viewers through Sitka ’ s Russian-influenced history from the 1700s to 1945 . For 30 minutes , viewers are immersed in battle scenes , humor , and artistic expression of Sitka history .
