A Century of Souvenirs
With roots dating back to 1919 , Sitka Bazaar , a family-owned business , tells the story of Sitka through its goods and longstanding relationship with the town .
Owner Chuck Trierschield explains how his great-great grandmother first opened the shop over 100 years ago . Though the original shop was once located across the street from its current location , Sitka Bazaar has called 215 Lincoln Street home since 1929 . The store has been passed down in his family for generations , eventually making its way to him and his wife , Shannon , in 1999 .
Today , the gift shop sells an array of items , from smaller souvenirs , like keychains , to more ornate items , like carved antlers . For Chuck , some of his favorite items are the handmade knives and scrimshaw ivory . Chuck and his wife also pride themselves on stocking their store full of Alaska-inspired creations , including Back Bay Botanicals , a local skincare product line , and hand-carved silver bracelets from Southeast artists . Sitka- and Alaska-themed clothing and souvenirs hang from racks scattered about the store .
An eye-catching part of Sitka Bazaar is the Christmas section . Here , Chuck calls attention to the felt ornaments of Calico Cache , an artist
