MEET THE BREWER
Family-owned Musket Brewery is located at Loddington Farm , Linton . Following the official opening by the then Chairman of Kent County Council , Musket Brewery presented its launch brews of their 3.8 % Golden Ale , Fife & Drum and 4.2 % Best Bitter , Flintlock . How did your brewing career begin ? I have been a home brewer since my early twenties , and have always treated numerous friends and relations to the famous ‘ Tonebrew ’ beers . Initially , we found the move to commercial brewing very different . At the beginning I was professionally mentored , and this help and advice was ongoing . This proved invaluable in the development of Musket . I have personally retired now from brewing , but our Head Brewer , Scott , is a qualified microbiologist . He always ensures that Musket ’ s high standards are strictly maintained !
Why the name Musket ? When discussing the monumental task of putting together a commercial brewery , musket kept coming into the conversation . We “ musket ” suitable premises , we “ musket ” a brewing license etc . And so the name of the business came naturally . Now if you believe that ...! The home of Musket Brewery is Loddington Farm in Linton ; a Borough of Maidstone adjacent to Coxheath . It was actually at Coxheath that regular troops together with raw militia used to camp and train . Musket conjures up images of an era where chivalry , courtesy , attention to detail , commitment , honour , and traditional values were paramount . These are the values on which the Musket Brewery is founded and the directors believe that you could not get a firmer foundation for a new venture . So the Musket Brewery Limited it is . And that is how it got its name – now you know !
What ’ s your favourite beer , and how should it be drunk ? Oh come on – it ’ s like asking me which of my children and grandchildren do I love best ! I like all of my beers , they are “ old school ” and traditional , just like me . I honestly could not sell beers that I personally didn ’ t like .
Where can people buy / find Musket beer ? The very nature of the marketplace means that places serving real ales are constantly offering their customers a variety of great beers , therefore it is almost impossible to say with any certainty which pubs will be serving Musket beer at any given time but you will find it across Kent . You ’ re also sure to find a great selection of Musket beers available at the Musket Brewery Tap Room ; The Armoury . Open Wednesday through to Sunday , there are also curry nights every Wednesday and Friday night fajita nights .
